Under that, though, ran the less glamorous layer: tests, deployment scripts and cleanup of older application pieces so the new work would not keep tripping over ghosts from past versions.
There were also operational details moving in the business applications. This was not one polished page, but a mix of forms, reports, PDF outputs and small fixes that users notice mostly when they stop getting in the way. It is the annoyingly honest kind of work: nobody applauds when data does not fall on the floor, but hell knows exactly how many screws had to be tightened to make that look effortless.
