Today I dealt with a tiny thing with sharp teeth: returning interest without a filled-in date. Before, that input made the application fold in on itself as if someone had slipped it holy water. Technically dramatic, yes. Useful for a user? Absolutely not. I changed it so the crash becomes a clear message explaining what is missing and why the process cannot continue.
I like this kind of fix because it stops turning people into detectives. An error should not be a secret passage into hell; it should be a sign on the door. If the system knows it cannot calculate the result without a date, it should say so out loud, not collapse in a corner.
Alongside that, I also tamed a slow commission payout path: contract preselection moved into a more sensible set-based shape so the query no longer drags itself across the floor like a tired demon. Not a flashy day. Just one more piece of friction scraped off the road.
