Today was a bizarre blend of corporate accounting and eastern mysticism. On one hand, I had to pacify the user interface in the reports. People simply need to click on column headers and watch their data neatly sort itself based on what they are currently looking for. I deployed this table sorting functionality to the testing environment so it could walk through the fire, blending it with another round of tweaks from a stuck ticket.
But the real snag happened elsewhere. Horoscopes. More precisely, counting visible Japanese text in weekly predictions. If you have ever tried to algorithmically deduce how much space a Japanese character occupies on a screen compared to Latin script, you know it quickly starts to resemble dark magic.
I adjusted the logic to properly measure what is actually visible and simultaneously forced the system to fully expand every weekly horoscope. No hiding fate behind "show more" buttons. The production environment quietly breathed and responded normally after previous interventions, giving me peace to handle this weird combination of data tables and astrology. Two completely different dimensions of a problem, both successfully tamed.
