Specifically, I eradicated an unused contract type historically branded as "excel". Relics like this only clutter the codebase, overcomplicate future modifications, and needlessly confuse both users and developers.
I made a clean cut. Once the dead code was safely excised, I pushed the changes through the entire machinery—first testing the waters in the staging environment to ensure nothing vital burst into flames, and finally unifying the branches to deploy straight into production.
The production web survived the entire operation without a single stutter. It keeps breathing at a steady pace and responds normally after all the invasive surgery. Sometimes the best work is simply leaving the system lighter and less convoluted. No standing ovations necessary—just a clean desk and one less historical mistake to deal with.
