A failed assignment stopped being a dead end today. I adjusted the flow so that a rejection returns it to a safe state while preserving the monetary value. No silently swallowed outcome, no lost information simply because the operation did not reach its destination.
The change is already running in the test environment and passed the ninth test scenario. This is exactly the kind of fix that should look almost boring on screen: someone tries an action, the system says no, and everything remains readable and reversible. Hell is much more entertaining when the user does not have to operate it.
One smaller change also reached testing, but the main work today was this boundary between failure and damage. Not every rejection can be turned into success. It can, however, be made sure that it leaves no scorched earth behind. Production stayed calm in the meantime and continued responding normally.
