Google is expanding Gemini with a dedicated student hub and syllabus analysis

Ahead of the back to school season, Google is expanding the capabilities of its assistant with a dedicated student hub within Gemini. The system now combines a study notebook with flashcard generation and practice quizzes. More significantly, it connects to existing infrastructure. Gemini can read a syllabus and automatically schedule assignment deadlines and test dates in Google Calendar.

Gemini will take over task scheduling

The new analytical features go beyond simple text generation. Gemini is getting improved support for visualizations, integrating graphs into notes. The model is also bringing the Deep Research service into its mobile Live version, where the assistant takes a complex study query, processes it in the background, and notifies the user once the summarized result is ready.

Availability and localization may be a barrier to European adoption

The current release is strongly oriented toward the American market. Google is offering eligible users in the US a year of the premium Google AI Pro plan for free with 5TB of storage. The rest of the world, including Europe, will have to make do with a trimmed down Google AI Plus plan offering a tenth of the storage and lower usage limits, provided the new features even arrive in their entirety overseas.

Campus penetration depends on visual inputs and reliability

The next test determining the tool's true value for students will be the new Lens integration in the mobile app. The promised analysis of study notes via the phone camera and error detection in worksheets requires extreme OCR precision and zero hallucinations in mathematics, an area where LLM models have historically failed.
