Editorial illustration: Meta is giving Muse an email address and a face, but authority is the real upgrade

Meta is expanding its personal agent Muse with a dedicated email address, control over Mac applications and video chat through a customizable digital avatar. Most features were presented at Connect 2026 as forthcoming without firm dates, making this a product direction rather than a finished global offering.

Muse is set to receive a mailbox, a Mac desktop and a digital face

Concurrent reports say users will be able to add Muse to an email thread or forward a message for the agent to handle. Meta says the dedicated address is coming soon, without giving a more precise date. The Mac app is expected to let Muse operate other applications and continue queued work after the user walks away.

Video chat will use the Muse Realtime Avatar model for live conversation with a customizable digital character. The primary Verge page was blocked during verification, so these details were cross-checked against concurrent coverage and Meta's official materials for the original Muse launch.

A dedicated email turns an assistant into a participant in other people's workflows

The avatar is the visible part of the announcement, but the mailbox is strategically more important. Email is a universal interface for customer support, bookings, vendors and internal approvals. Meta also said it received more than 1,500 connector applications in less than a week. An agent with an address can enter processes that nobody exposed to it through an API.

That also expands the set of people and content able to reach the agent. Muse's existing architecture separates the agent, credentials and the Sentinel control system. Incoming mail will nevertheless require sender verification, prompt-injection defenses and clear labeling of messages sent by a machine.

The announcement is ahead of both availability and operating rules

Meta's official launch post says Muse is rolling out only in the US on iOS, Android and the web. The new features do not share a single schedule, while glasses integration was described as coming in the next few months. European users therefore have no confirmed access yet.

Meta also has not explained who may write directly to an agent address, which replies require review by a person or how recipients will see the degree of autonomy involved. Without those rules, an email identity creates an attack surface before it creates reliable delegation.

The visibility of Send and the history behind every action will decide the outcome

The first useful signals will be specific: whether the agent requests approval before sending, how it handles unverified content and whether the audit trail separates drafts, approvals and executed actions. The number of avatar calls will reveal little about delegation quality.

Availability beyond the US is the second test. Until Meta publishes dates, regions and a precise permission model, Muse at Connect demonstrates an ambition to distribute an agent through familiar interfaces, not a finished standard for everyday work.

Lilith's verdict

Before a user invites Muse into an email thread, it must be clear whose finger is on Send. The digital face is decoration; accountability for the message is the product.
